Laadees (Ladis) — how it works
Teams: You (South) + Partner (North) vs West + East. Partners sit opposite.
Deal: First 4 cards go to each player. The player to the dealer's right declares the hukum (trump suit) from those four cards, then the remaining 9 cards are dealt — 13 each. Rank high→low: A K Q J 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2.
Play: The declarer leads the first trick. Everyone must follow the led suit if able; otherwise play anything (trump or discard). Highest trump wins the trick, else the highest card of the led suit. The winner leads next. 13 tricks per hand.
Winning a hand: The team that wins 7 or more of the 13 tricks wins the hand.
Scoring (kalya): 7–8 tricks = 2 kalya · 9–10 = 4 · 11–12 = 6 · all 13 = 8 kalya (a "kot"). 16 kalya = 1 ladoo. Ladoos + kalya are tracked across hands as the match score.
Vakkhai: Before the first card of a hand, a player may call Vakkhai to double that hand's kalya stakes (×2). Use it when you're confident.
The winning team declares the hukum and leads the next hand.
